The Circle of U.S. Life and it Destroys us All

After the most recent mass shootings that the U.S. has once again been subjected to, I wanted to come here and rage about the “president” (and yes I put it in quotes, because just because one has a title doesn’t mean it’s meant for them), I realized that it would most likely fall upon many deaf ears. We are a nation divided in sadness, rage and grief and nothing seems to be getting better. I certainly don’t pretend to have the answers.

However, whenever we have one of these horrid massacres, this meme always pops up. Right now, we seem to be at the “Everyone forgets” part of the circuitous process. I’m not going to make it into a bash against religion or the NRA. Obviously, after years of countless numbers being slaughtered while doing the most everyday things: Attending synagogue, watching a concert, going to a movie, riding a bike, going to school, enjoying an evening out with friends and family; it seems we are all just moving targets at this point. Congress never does anything, the “president” is more concerned with making an ass out of himself on Twitter while the world burns (literally and figuratively).

Since there isn’t a new shooting to lament (thank goodness), our news turns to the approaching, soon to be Hurricane Dorian. As it approaches Puerto Rico (still ravaged and ignored by our President ~although he did toss paper towels at them~) and those U.S CITIZENS still living with blue tarp for a roof cower in terror as they know the “president” will not come to their aid, I realize how absolutely disgusted and sick to my stomach I am over the mass shootings in this country. I haven’t the slightest clue as to how these things can be stopped. I realize that hundreds of thousands of guns are already out there. I realize our “president” has added to the list of the dead by removing the protections wisely put in place to prevent those with mental illness from obtaining a gun, but that ship sailed a while ago. I think he regrets it, as I saw a passing comment, but I can no longer listen to his voice as it sickens me, nor can I tolerate his horrific lack of education and speaking ability, but that’s another matter.

mass shootings

When people put out strong comments (like mine I suppose), they are often called names since those who read and react don’t have anything constructive to say. They start saying, “libtard” or “snowflake” or some other name they spew forth in an attempt to make the other person look bad. I guess if I feel as if I don’t want dead babies floating around in border crossings or dead bodies lying about as officers try to take out yet another psychopath with an assault rifle who hates the “population target of the day” (take your pick from Hispanics, Jews, African Americans or whomever is on the list this time) I will be proud to be called those names.

The arguments go on continuously all around us. Whether on social media, in a coffee shop or at a “rally” where “fans” of the “president” shout “send her back” in an uneducated rant about someone who they want sent back to here, which is where they are from. I truly wonder if they realize how misinformed and under-educated they sound? Freedom of speech and all that blah, blah, blah I suppose, but then again, I’m doing the same thing. I’m speaking out loud about the continuous frustration I have, living in a divided country, an upcoming self-imposed recession started by a lunatic with no political skills, the repealing of all the wonderful efforts put in place to protect our pristine lands (what’s left of them), the international turmoil brought on by ego and not from necessity and all the other stupidity spewing from an idiot.

I’m grateful to be in a country where I can say what I want about our government. I realize that millions are denied that right and for that I am very grateful. However, I’m saddened by a government that does NOT care about the dead falling all around us from the sound of raging gunfire.

I grew up in Baltimore City, so as many will recall the recent comments from the “president”, who singled out the city due to a personal grudge rather than in any way “presidential”. Sure, I try to ignore him and I do my best as I don’t have regular TV or cable in my home and only read the news to keep up with things and work hard to stop autoplay in order to not hear the lack of education in his voice.

Everything on that list is true. If people want to argue that jobs have “come back”, there are VERY FEW full time jobs with benefits out there, unless you are highly educated and have gobs of experience. There are many part time jobs with no benefits that leave many without health care. However, this “man” works (when he isn’t golfing or tweeting) hard to say all these things are better because of him or exist because of him. When the climate improves, when people have health care regardless of their ability to pay, when children no longer live in cages, when Medicare and Social Security are well funded, when the talk of the stupid wall ceases, when Puerto Rico is taken care of like any other U.S. citizens in the wake of disaster, when our international reputation is one day restored by someone who cares about this country…things may change. Until then, we have leaders who are unwilling to do anything positive about this mayhem and chaos that we live in today. It’s not my normal type of post, but I am a mother and a citizen of this country, and I am TIRED OF IT ALL.

I guess I’m a snowflake, since I care about these children, mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles, friends, lovers, wives, husbands, unborn babies….

Rant over.
